A practical guide from 365 Rehab

Before You Read On

Contact 365 Rehab early, ideally before 28 days. We can assist with your paperwork, guide you through insurer requirements, and help you avoid delays or missed deadlines.

We understand that sometimes it is too hard to take in all this information while you are recovering. If that is you, skip the rest for now and simply call 1300 742 365 or email us. We will break it down into the next best step and handle the heavy lifting. We can assist you from start, to finish.

Being injured in a motor vehicle accident can disrupt work, family, and health all at once. This guide explains the CTP claim process in plain language and adds practical tips from our consultants.

Step 1 – Confirm You Are Eligible

CTP insurance covers injuries from motor accidents in NSW. You may be eligible if you were:

  • A driver or passenger
  • A motorcycle rider or pillion passenger
  • A pedestrian or cyclist

If the crash happened while you were working, you may also need a separate workers compensation claim.

365 Rehab tip: Do not assume you are ineligible if you think you were partly at fault. NSW CTP still provides benefits in many cases.

Step 2 – Gather Key Information Early

Clear information helps insurers make faster decisions. Collect:

  • Names, contact details, and licence numbers of drivers involved
  • Vehicle make, model, and registration numbers
  • Witness names and contact details
  • Date, time, and exact crash location with nearest cross street
  • Whether police or ambulance attended
  • Photos of the crash scene and damage if possible

You will also need:

  • Police Event Number — usually, but not always
  • Certificate of Fitness from your GP — consider using the SIRA form
  • Medical receipts and treatment records
  • Proof of earnings such as payslips or tax statements if you are looking to claim wages.

365 Rehab tip: If you do not have everything yet, lodge the claim anyway. You can send further documents later.

Step 3 – Identify the Correct Insurer

Claims are lodged with the insurer of the vehicle most at fault. If you are unsure, try one of the following:

Step 4 – Lodge Your Claim

  1. Direct with the insurer: we can prepare and submit the forms for you
  2. Online via Service NSW: through your MyServiceNSW account
  3. Email or post: use the Application for Personal Injury Benefits form and attach supporting documents

365 Rehab tip: Keep copies of everything you submit. It helps resolve any questions about missing documents.

Step 5 – What Happens Next

  • The insurer contacts you within 3 business days to confirm lodgement and provide a claim number
  • A liability decision is due within 4 weeks
  • If approved, weekly income payments start within 10 working days of the decision
  • If denied, you can request an internal review within 28 days and escalate to the Personal Injury Commission if needed

Step 6 – Disputes and Advice

If you disagree with the insurer’s decision, you may be eligible for funded legal advice through the CTP Legal Advisory Service. We can help you prepare your documents and present your case clearly.
